Armenia receives new proposals on peace treaty from Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 7, ARTSAKHPRESS. The negotiations over a peace treaty with Azerbaijan are a continual process and Armenia is resolutely involved in the talks, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with German Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock.

“We have a goal to continue our active efforts in building sustainable and lasting peace in our region. I’d like to inform that a meeting between me, the Azerbaijani and Russian foreign ministers was scheduled earlier in December. It had to take place in Moscow this time, but the Armenian side postponed participation due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor. And despite this, we conveyed our new proposals around a peace treaty to the Azerbaijani side. And I have to inform that a few days ago we received the Azerbaijani response and proposals. This is a continuous process, and we continue to work on the text, exchanging proposals and continuing discussions in several phases,” the Armenian Foreign Minister said.

FM Mirzoyan added that although the blockade of Lachin corridor and all other challenges are still ongoing, the negotiations continue. “The continual belligerent rhetoric and propaganda of hate against Armenians as well as aggressive actions on the ground by Azerbaijan don’t contribute to the successful and smoother course of these talks at all,” Mirzoyan said.

FM Mirzoyan reiterated that Armenia is committed to the agenda of peace and will continue efforts to achieve lasting and sustainable peace in the region.
