YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, ARTSAKHPRESS. The Armenian community of Argentina held a demonstration in Buenos Aires to raise awareness on the Azerbaijani blockade of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) and the resulting humanitarian crisis, the local Diario Armenia newspaper reported.

The demonstration – organized by the Armenian Institutions of Argentina – IARA – was held near Obelisco de Buenos Aires (Obelisk of Buenos Aires), a national historic monument and icon of the city.

The Armenian community condemned the blockade and called for an immediate opening of the Lachin Corridor.

“The Lachin Corridor is the only road for essential supplies such as food, medicine and energy resources to reach the 120,000 Armenians living there, including 30,000 children and 20,000 elderly people,” Diario Armenia quoted the organizers as saying. They added that “[the blockade] is yet another maneuver by Azerbaijan and its president Ilham Aliyev to commit its genocidal plans of ethnic cleansing against the Armenian population of the region.”

“As ethnic Armenian citizens of Argentina, we are calling on the people and government of our country to express solidarity with the residents of Artsakh, to raise their voice and present respective demands to international organizations in order for Azerbaijan to stop its inhumane treatment of the 120,000 people living in Artsakh,” the organizers of the demonstration said.

Azerbaijan is keeping the Lachin Corridor closed since December 12, 2022. The Lachin Corridor is the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia and the rest of the world.
