Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople convenes community meeting on earthquake consequences

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 6, ARTSAKHPRESS. The Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople is convening a community consultation to discuss the elimination of the consequences of the earthquake, the editor of the Istanbul-based Zhamanak newspaper Ara Guchunyan told ARMENPRESS.

Armenian community organizations will discuss restoration of the destroyed churches, as well as their steps of having contribution in eliminating the material damages and responding to the situation in the country.

The earthquake’s epicenter was 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles), the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

In Turkey, at least 912 people were killed and more than 5380 injured. In neighboring Syria, at least 326 people died and more than 630 were injured.
