BTA. Road Carriers Urge Removing Border Controls between Bulgaria and Romania

International

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 14, ARTSAKHPRESS. Bulgarian road carriers urge removing border control between Bulgaria and Romania. “If Bulgaria and Romania can’t be in the border-free Schengen Area now, the governments of the two countries should abolish border controls,” the Chamber of Road Carriers in Bulgaria (CRCB) said in a statement put out Tuesday.

CRCB supports the position of the National Union of Automobile Carriers in Romania saying that now that the two countries’ entry in Schengen is blocked, the two government should take to work and abolish border controls between them.

“In both countries, the transport sector is a leading one for their economies. The transport industry in both Bulgaria and Romania has suffered considerably because of the protectionist measures introduced by the EU under the name of the Mobility I package. The aim is clear – to reduce the competitiveness not only of the carriers of the two countries, but also of their economies as a whole,” the statement further reads.

According to the hauliers, the two countries’ non-admission to Schengen is “a blow to business, to all traveling people, and to heavy goods vehicle drivers who are forced to wait for hours and days at the border.

On December 8, the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council rejected the admission of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen, approving only that of Croatia from the start of 2023.
