YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARTSAKHPRESS. President Gustavo Petro of Colombia said Wednesday that four children from an Indigenous community in Colombia were found alive in the south of the country more than two weeks after the plane they were traveling in crashed in thick jungle.

“After arduous searching by our military, we have found alive the four children who went missing after a plane crash in Guaviare. A joy for the country,” Petro tweeted.

But defence ministry sources have told local media they have no confirmation that the children have been found, sparking confusion.

The plane – a Cessna 206 – was carrying seven people on a route between Araracuara, in Amazonas province, and San Jose del Guaviare, a city in Guaviare province, when it issued a mayday alert due to engine failure in the early hours of May 1, Reuters reported.

Three adults, including the pilot, died as a result of the crash. The children who survived the crash were reportedly wandering through the rainforest.
