Death toll in Turkey-Syria earthquake keeps rising

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, ARTSAKHPRESS. The death toll in Turkey in the devastating 7,8-magnitude earthquake which hit the southern part of the country near the Syrian border on February 6 reached 6,957, Anadolu news agency reported citing the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

The death toll stood at 5,894 as of early Wednesday morning.

In neighboring Syria, 1,250 died and 2,054 were injured, according to the healthcare ministry.

In turn, the White Helmets reported that at least another 1,280 people died and over 2,600 were injured in opposition-controlled parts of Syria.

“Death toll from earthquake in NW Syria has risen to 1,280+ deaths & 2,600+ injured. Number is expected to rise significantly as hundreds of families remain trapped under the rubble more than 50 hours after the earthquake,” the organization tweeted.
