FM Mirzoyan, EP’s David McAllister exchange views on Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process

YEREVAN, JANAURY 23, ARTSAKHPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Chair of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister in Brussels on January 23, the foreign ministry said in a press release.

Issues related to regional security and stability were discussed at the meeting.

FM Mirzoyan presented to David McAllister the consequences of the blockade of Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan seeks to commit ethnic cleansing against the 120,000 Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh.

FM Mirzoyan emphasized the necessity of increasing pressure against Azerbaijan by the international community to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Nagorno Karabakh. In this context the Armenian FM attached importance to the principled positions expressed in the urgent resolution on the blockade of Lachin Corridor adopted January 18-19 in the European Parliament’s plenary session and the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) 2022 Annual Report which objectively reflect the situation in the region.

Ararat Mirzoyan and David McAllister also exchanged views around the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization of relations process. They also talked about the agenda issues of the Armenia-EU partnership and prospects of expanding it. The work of the EU monitoring mission which was completed on December 19 was highly appreciated.
