French scholars call on international community to take urgent actions to end blockade of Artsakh

YEREVAN, MARCH 17, ARTSAKHPRESS. On March 16 the French Senate hosted a forum titled In Support of Armenia and Artsakh, where renowned French scholars and parliamentarians expressed their concern regarding the anti-Armenian policy and policy of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan.

The forum was organized under the patronage of President of the Senate Gérard Larcher and the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet.

The co-founder of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Médecins du Monde Bernard Kouchner and Senator, head of the Republicans group and chairman of the Senate group for international awareness on Nagorno Karabakh Bruno Retailleau delivered opening remarks.

French writer and traveler Sylvain Tesson, novelist and member of the French Academy Érik Orsenna, writer, ex-envoy for human rights Olivier Weber, writer Pascal Bruckner, Le Point magazine editor-in-chief Valerie Toranian, filmmaker Costa-Gavras and other renowned scholars participated as speakers in the event.

The French scholars expressed deep concern over the continuous and explicit anti-Armenian policy and policy of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan and the existential threat facing the people of Artsakh. They called on the international community to take urgent actions to end the blockade of Artsakh which is taking place for nearly 100 days, and to guarantee the Artsakh people’s right to live free and in dignity on their own land.

The forum featured speeches by French lawmakers.
