Diaspora

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 28, ARTSAKHPRESS. Around 20 young Diaspora-Armenians from 13 countries are already in Armenia on the sidelines of the Diaspora Youth Ambassador program.

The program aims to enable Diaspora Armenian youth to expand their views on Armenia’s and Artsakh’s political, social, economic and other issues, to support their greater involvement in community life through the transfer of new knowledge and skills, to contribute to the establishment of contacts between different Diaspora communities, as well as the youth from Armenia and Artsakh.

Speaking to ARMENPRESS, program manager Greta Mnatsakanyan said that every new project connected with Armenia is very important for Diaspora-Armenian youth. The evidence of this is the large number of applications submitted for participating in a number of programs being implemented by the Office of High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia.

“We are solving a problem with this program, by engaging young people in the process of strengthening the Armenia-Diaspora ties because there are differences in generations and different approaches. Through this program we provide participants with necessary information, knowledge and also provide an opportunity so that Armenia can use their opportunities in terms of knowledge, potential and ties”, she said.

Program participants Ashkhen Badalian lives in Russia for already 25 years. In the past two years she made a final decision to move to Armenia and serve her experience, knowledge and ties to the country’s development. And the Diaspora Youth Ambassador program is an important platform for the fulfillment of that goal.

Vladimir Harutyunyan from USA attaches importance to this program as he says that many in his community have no idea of what is happening in Armenia. As for his decision to move to Armenia, he said that every Diaspora-Armenian always has this idea on his/her mind.

The Diaspora Youth Ambassador program launched in 2021. 104 Diaspora-Armenians applied for the participation to the program, but 20 were selected from 16 countries. This year the program launched on September 25 and will last until October 8.
