YEREVAN, MAY 19, ARTSAKHPRESS. Member of Parliament Vigen Khachatryan from the ruling Civil Contract Party has said that Russia’s behavior in relation to the closure of the Lachin Corridor and Azerbaijan’s aggression is incomprehensible when Russia has obligations.

Speaking at a press conference, the lawmaker said that the Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia, the shootings, are explicit provocations and a blatant attempt to derail all agreements. Khachatryan said that Azerbaijan doesn’t intend to resolve the issues in a civilized manner.

When asked on the Brussels talks and expectations from the West, he said: “Unlike the West, in case of Moscow we have a mediator who has assumed certain obligations. Thus, I have much more expectations from the mediator because it has obligations, thus I am entitled to also demand to respect the agreements. When the so-called eco-activists had blocked the road into Artsakh, Lavrov said it’s a matter of days for the corridor to be opened. I thought he has grounds to say so. But instead a checkpoint was installed. The West hasn’t assumed obligations, it is providing a platform for dialogue. Russia’s behavior is incomprehensible for me, because our people and our country expect a lot more from Russia.”

He said that the negotiations in Moscow will show whether or not Russia would display decisiveness.

Speaking about the CSTO, Khachatryan noted that the Armenian government has clearly stated that Russia must announce that Azerbaijan resorted to aggression and call for Azeri withdrawal from Armenian territories before speaking about CSTO aid. “We demand a political assessment. When Russia is silent in this regard, I get worried that their presence could become the reason for new provocations. We have numerous examples when Russian peacekeeping forces pulled back and the Azerbaijanis appeared immediately on the spot.”
