YEREVAN, JANUARY 29, ARTSAKHPRESS. The friendship between the Armenian and Egyptian peoples comes from the depths of centuries, which in turn continues to be further strengthened with the over 30 years of stable relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan said in his statement for the press after holding a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

President Khachaturyan said it is a great honor for him to host Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s historic official visit to Armenia.

“I assess the talks with my colleague President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as productive, during the negotiations we discussed the wide circle of cooperation that has developed during our two states over the years, the relevant programs and next steps for developing bilateral relations. I am pleased to note that today Armenia and Egypt are effectively cooperating in the political, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, tourism and other sectors. Effective cooperation has developed also in a number of multilateral platforms. Of course, the volumes of bilateral trade turnover aren’t yet satisfactory, but I am confident that the broad political agenda, as well as through joint efforts by the leaderships of the two countries the mutually-beneficial cooperation agenda will be deepened soon and we will have results also in trade-economic exchange and several other areas,” President Khachaturyan said.

The Armenian President added that over the past years significant progress was recorded in nearly all sectors of cooperation.

“Furthermore, new prospects for cooperation are being outlined. More than fifty documents on cooperation have been signed between our countries. Many other documents were signed during this visit, which will launch new interesting initiatives. Tourism is dynamically developing. Egypt has been one of the most popular tourism destinations for Armenian citizens for many years, and every year the number of our tourists grows significantly. After the recent visa simplification for citizens of Egypt by Armenia, we expect a big flow of citizens of Egypt to Armenia, which would greatly contribute to strengthening of the Armenian-Egyptian friendly ties and mutual awareness between the peoples,” Khachaturyan said.

The Armenian President said that security, political and regional issues were also discussed with the Egyptian President.

“We also discussed Armenia’s efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region,” Khachaturyan added.

President Khachaturyan pointed out the unique role of the Armenian community in Egypt in the Armenian-Egyptian relations. He said the community has been contributing to the development of Egypt for many centuries, as well as strengthening of bilateral ties.

“In this regard I must express special thanks for the care which our compatriots living in Egypt are enjoying on the state level. The Armenian nation never forgets how the Egyptian people embraced the genocide survivors and the support they provided. I am hopeful that in this current period full of numerous challenges, the Armenian-Egyptian friendship will be one of the factors through which our countries will be able to overcome all difficulties and confidently move forward towards a bright future,” the Armenian President said.
