YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 6, ARTSAKHPRESS. The number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey has reached 1498, ARTSAKHPRESS.reports, citing “RIA Novosti”, the head of Turkey’s emergency management department Yunus Sezer said.
Earlier, the department reported 1,121 casualties.
“As of now, the number of victims is 1,498, there are 8,533 wounded, and the number of destroyed buildings is 2,834,” Sezer told reporters.
The epicenter of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in the early morning of February 6 was in Kahramanmaras province in the south of Turkey. According to Turkish seismologists, this earthquake can become one of the most destructive in the region in recent times. During the day, several more earthquakes of 7.7 magnitude, 4.2 magnitude and 4.3 magnitude were recorded in Turkey.
