YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARTSAKHPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on March 23 that Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev’s latest infamous speech constitutes an act of aggression against Armenia and a gross violation of agreements.

The Azeri leader said on March 18 that Armenia must accept Azerbaijan’s terms or else “there won’t be a peace treaty.”

“This can’t be described anything else other than an act of aggression against the Republic of Armenia and a gross violation of the agreements that were reached on the highest level. Why? Because the statement adopted at the 6 October 2022 quadrilateral meeting says – Armenia and Azerbaijan confirmed their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and the Alma Ata 1991 Declaration through which both recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. They confirmed it would be a basis for the work of the border delimitation commissions. This is a statement which the Azerbaijani leader himself adopted. A similar statement was adopted on 31 October in Sochi by myself, the Russian President and the Azerbaijani leader. We agreed to refrain from the use of force or the threat of force, to discuss and resolve all contentious issues solely on the basis of mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, in accordance with the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration,” the PM said, quoting the Prague and Sochi statements.

The Armenian PM added that after these statements, which directly stipulate that the borders of Soviet republics transformed into national borders, Azerbaijan keeps talking about carrying out delimitation based on some “historical maps”, which is completely unacceptable because it contradicts the agreements.

Pashinyan added that Azerbaijan’s violations of the agreements is the reason why Armenia insists to have reliable international mechanisms of negotiations for the implementation of agreements reached over the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, or the rights and security of the people of Nagorno Karabakh in the Stepanakert-Baku format.
