YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, ARTSAKHPRESS. Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan held a meeting with South Korean legislator Ki Hun Song, the Chair of the Republic of Korea-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Korean parliament.

The importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the Armenian-Korean bilateral relations was emphasized at the meeting, the parliament’s press service said in a read-out.

Possible directions for strengthening and developing the bilateral relations between Armenia and South Korea were discussed. Simonyan and Song underscored the necessity for mutually beneficial cooperation in the trade-economic, scientific, educational, cultural and tourism sectors. In this context the Speaker of Parliament attached importance to the opening of the South Korean embassy in Armenia, which will allow great progress to be made in the bilateral relations.

Speaker Simonyan highly appreciated the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s support to Armenia, particularly to the parliament, expecting continuity.

Issues related to regional security, as well as Azerbaijan’s maximalist aspirations and its consequences were also discussed.

“We value the balanced position of the Republic of Korea on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and we hope that Korea will continue supporting the international mediators’ efforts in the issue of resolving the conflict through exclusively peaceful ways,” Simonyan said.

Speaker Simonyan added that Armenia expects targeted steps from international partners demanding Azerbaijan to fully implement its obligations under the 9 November 2020 trilateral statement, to immediately and unconditionally end the blockade of Lachin corridor and ensure safe and secure passage of transportation.
