Azerbaijani provocations impede Armenia’s efforts for establishing peace – FM Mirzoyan tells OSCE Secretary General

YEREVAN, JANUARY 18, ARTSAKHPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Secretary General of the OSCE Helga Schmid in Vienna, Austria.

They discussed issues of regional significance and exchanged views around the special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council which took place earlier on the same day, the foreign ministry said in a read-out.

FM Mirzoyan spoke about the situation in Nagorno Karabakh resulting from the closure of the Lachin Corridor, underlining that Azerbaijan seeks to commit ethnic cleansing against the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh.

The Armenian FM emphasized the need for practical steps by the international community for unblocking the Lachin Corridor and restoring safe and unimpeded connection between Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Ensuring humanitarian access of respective international organizations into Nagorno Karabakh was highlighted.

Views were exchanged on the normalization process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. FM Mirzoyan said that Azerbaijan’s continual provocations, disregard to agreements and belligerent rhetoric are greatly obstructing the Armenian efforts for establishing peace and stability in the region. The FM also emphasized that the OSCE, through its organizations, should play a role in achieving and preserving peace.

FM Mirzoyan also presented the latest developments in the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations.

During the meeting the cooperation programs with Armenia as part of the OSCE were also discussed.
