Turkey’s death toll from earthquake reaches 912

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 6, ARTSAKHPRESS. The death toll in Turkey after the devastating earthquake exceeds 900, and over 5000 people are injured, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

“At this moment, the death toll is 912, another 5,385 people are injured, 2,470 people were rescued,” Erdogan said at the rescue service headquarters.

2,818 buildings were destroyed in various cities across Turkey, he said.

The 7,4-magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles), the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The earthquake caused widespread destruction in Syria, where 326 people died.
